This will be where I talk about what I’ve been listening to a lot lately. Basically, a “What’s in my iPod” page… even though I don’t do the whole iPod thing. You get the idea. :)

  • Nickel Creek
    • Newgrass sound at its finest. Lyrically, they’ve got an honest and real message that subverts your CCM filters, then hits you, “BANG! They’re talking about God!”
  • Mission to the Sea
    • Fairly small act out of Dallas. Performed all the time at a little coffee shop south of Waco while I was there. Kinda “Iron and Wine”-inspired. But ‘inspired by’ is as close as I would call his sound to anything else I’ve heard. Great ambience music (not ambient i.e. electronica). And he skis Durango and drinks Ska.
  • Robbie Seay Band
    • Possibly the most up-front about their Christ-follower status among the bands currently listed, but the lyrics, themes, and content still weave awesomely into their music. And Robbie’s voice is ethereal, and Bono-status distinctive.
  • Seu Jorge
    • Found him through my favorite Bill Murray movie, The Life Aquatic. The Portuguese guitarrist balanced acting and strumming quite well. Very relaxing. You gotta track down his David Bowie covers.
  • Kendall Payne
    • “Left” a major CCM label because what they wanted from her was too manufactured and trite. So, she’s the opposite of manufactured and trite. Can’t miss her! And keep an eye out for shows in your area… one of the best I’ve been to, especially if you luck out with an acoustic set.

Also, you should check out Pandora. It’s the freakin’ coolest free internet radio out there. Go create a free login profile. Then type in a song or artist that you like, and it creates a “station” based on the various qualities of that selection (super-detailed stuff like major key tonality, heavy acoustic instrumentation, raspy male vocals, East-coast rap backbeats, etc…). Freebie-membership listeners can create up to 100 stations that are stored for when you log in.

  1. [...] My Audiophilia and Bibliophilia pages have long gone neglected. No more! (at least for today…) They’re updated. Check ‘em out. Dialogue if something strikes you. [...]
